Hamper Heroes
Alhumdulillah, together as a community were able to deliver Zakat-ul-Fitr Hampers to 35 Muslim families in Calgary.

WHERE: Al-Salam Centre Gym( 6415 Ranchview Dr. NW, Calgary, AB T3G 1B5 )
WHY: Our mission is to help provide food hampers for needy families in our Muslim communities.
Al-Bukhari and Muslim relate from Ibn 'Umar that he said:
"The Prophet ﷺ, enjoined the payment of one sa' of dates or one sa' of barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr on every Muslim, young and old, male and female, free and slave."
The hadith reported by Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, and ad-Daraqutni from Ibn 'Abbas:
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, enjoined Zakat-ul-Fitr as a purification for the one who fasts from any indecent act or speech, and as food for the needy."
We hope to educate children about the importance of Zakat-ul-Fitr and feeding the needy. Children will get together to make Food Hampers for families in need in our community. We hope to teach children in a practical and hands-on way, which is more rewarding than putting money into the donation box at the last minute.

2:00 PM - Set-up and Dhuhr Prayer
2:30 PM - Storytime
2:45 PM - Hamper Packaging
3:15 PM - Eid Card Making Workshop
GUILDELINES
Please sign-up to purchase as many items as you like and bring them with you to Al-Salaam Centre where our little Super Heroes will work together to assemble the food hampers. You can find the sign-up link inside the RSVP form below.
Please ensure you bring the exact quantity mentioned on the sign-up sheet.
The hampers will be delivered to families who are Zakat eligible, you can use Zakat-ul-Fitr to purchase items or make in-kind donations. (Fitra amount is $15 per family member or $10/per family member for low-income families)
At the end of the event, participants will be asked to pick families they would like to deliver the Food Hampers to(addresses will be provided).
We would like you to deliver the hampers no later than April 16th. Feel free to add a homemade treat to your hamper to make it more special.
Children and children at heart are welcome to dress up for this event.
